KnH LN Recaps for Fanfics

Certain events and lines keep getting repeated in fanfiction, and rather than constantly quote them, I will be posting tiny tiiiiiny translations here just as reference. And when I say tiny, I mean it. Probably 10 lines max per event. Basically things within the Kindle “copy limit”. It’s not meant to be a full narrative translation, but rather, a citation cause I’m tired of repeating myself. lol

Don’t expect to understand anything from this. No context provided.

Will be updated as new references are made and replaced with humorous, hyperbolic summaries when the licensed book’s been released or it becomes common knowledge. If that never happens, well… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

~THERE BE SPOILERS AHEAD~

Vol 3 Ch 8 (Japanese Edition)

(Kindle Location 1712 – 1719)

“What?”

Jinshi looked at Maomao with suspicious eyes.

”No, I think we have a suitable person for the role.”

“Who? Is it a courtesan from your brothel?”

“No, I’m afraid to say there’s no one of that stature at the Rokushoukan.”

If there were a beauty of height over five shaku and eight sun[175cm], she would remember.

Maomao fixed her gaze on Jinshi. Noticing this, Gaoshun also looked at Jinshi. Then, “Ahh,” he said in a tone of understanding.

“……”

“What are you trying to say?”

Jinshi said with an unusual mixture of irritation in his voice.

She remembered a beauty that was over five shaku, eight sun tall.

Vol 3 Ch 19 (Japanese Edition)

(Kindle Location 4377 – 4386)

Maomao finally broke away from Jinshi’s loosened hold and tried to stand up. It was at that moment. Her body was pushed. In negligence, Maomao’s body was left lying on the ground.

Looking up, there was Jinshi. His body swayed, landing on top of Maomao. His eyes flickered like a candle’s flame.

“Right.”

Saying that, Jinshi slowly laid his hand behind Maomao’s knee, lifting. The position was even more unspeakable than before.

“Shall we confirm that?”

Jinshi said, his face twitching.

Maomao’s entire body was covered in goosebumps, dripping with greasy sweat like a toad. She regretted now that she’d been too provocative.

Jinshi, being Jinshi, for a moment looked somewhat bewildered. For a few seconds, dozens of seconds, they both remained stationary.

Then, Jinshi, seemingly prepared for something, bit his lip and started to move.

Slowly, Jinshi’s face drew closer.

Vol 4 Ch 22 (Japanese Edition)

(Kindle Location 4059 – 4066)

Suddenly, she reflected on it. Hadn’t this situation happened before? And wasn’t her current position considerably risqué? With her back against the carriage’s pillar, there was no escaping.

“Jinshi-sama, wouldn’t it be better for you to go to sleep?”

“I’m still fine.”

She wondered what this man was saying with his eyes sunken in.

“Jinshi-sama, I will re-stitch your wound. I will prescribe you some painkillers.”

“I can bear it for another quarter dual-hour[30 mins] or so.”

“Why a quarter dual-hour?”

Jinshi ignored Maomao’s question. He was too exhausted, and those eyes were like those of a stray dog.

(This isn’t good.)

Even if she tried to wriggle away, her opponent’s power was stronger than hers.

Just as Jinshi’s face was steadily approaching and their noses were about to touch.

Vol 6 Ch 15 (Japanese Edition)

(Kindle Location 3519 – 3526)

“Do you really hate me that much?”

His ferocious gaze, like that of a stray dog, changed into one that resembled a needy puppy. Whether it be love or hate, there were those out there who wished to distinguish clearly what was black or white. Why couldn’t there be an option for grey?

“I wouldn’t say that I hate you.”

In fact, she might even find him likeable. Considering how they initially met, she had surprisingly come to think of this nobleman in a positive light.

Her answer was somewhat vague, which made Jinshi a little pouty. Perhaps he would have been satisfied if she said that she liked him, but to be honest, Maomao hadn’t reached the point where she could put it into words. However, she was not devoid of a certain degree of goodwill towards him, so she did her best to find his strong points.

“The cordyceps made me incredibly happy.”

(Kindle Location 3539 – 3549)

She loathed that he feigned ignorance. Where on earth did he learn of Maomao’s weakness? Who would know this weakness, the brothel madam, Pairin, or……?

As she remembered the calm and composed elderly handmaiden, Maomao’s eyes widened. Once, she had been punished by being tickled with a feather duster. That said, Suiren had been joking and quickly wrapped it up, and Maomao had endured it too, so she didn’t think it was discovered to be a weakness.

That was how he knew— the formidable Suiren.

Barely clenching her teeth, she writhed around as her entire foot was tickled. She stitched her lips shut to prevent her voice from escaping, but she couldn’t keep it completely closed.

Long fingertips tickled the arch of Maomao’s foot as though stroking it. When her body responded reflexively, this time he touched the other heel. Before she could become accustomed to tickled spot, he moved on to the next part of her body; not only the soles of her feet, but also her toes, instep, ankles and calves.

Jinshi looked down at Maomao with a composed smile. He enjoyed Maomao’s twitchy, fish-like reaction, despite her endurance. He stroked her arched instep in a teasing manner.

Vol 6 Epilogue (Japanese Edition)

(Kindle Location 4006 – 4014)

Chou’u didn’t care that the inside of the apothecary was small; he strolled in. Then, as Maomao wondered what he was going to do, he sneakily traced her back with his fingertip. Her entire body broke out in goosebumps.

“Did you know? Freckles, you’re really weak when fingers rub on your back. It’s funny.”

Why would he make such a revelation at this time; she reached out to deal Chou’u a blow with her fist, but he escaped.

“I see.”

Jinshi grinned. Then. He took out his coin purse from his pocket and fetched a piece of silver for Chou’u to hold. The amount was too much for a child’s spending money.

“Eh? What? Bro, what’s going on?”

“Can you go on an errand for a bit? That’s right… just take your time.”

Maomao’s eyes showed her astonishment.

“Oh–! Bro, You’re the best!”

“Take your time.”

(Kindle Location 2880 – 2886)

What should she do; she gave him tit for tat. Wasn’t that precisely the situation?

“Do I have to say it outright? If I tell you, are you going to listen to me? I heard that, I swear! Absolutely! I’m telling you now. Don’t cover your ears!”

Jinshi quickly seized both of Maomao’s hands as she tried to hold her ears.

Jinshi took a short pause. He looked at Maomao with something resembling embarrassment.

“You– no, Maomao! Listen carefully! I will make you my wife.”

He said it. It had been said.

He said words that could be considered a death sentence for Maomao.

Vol 9 Ch 20 (Japanese Edition)

(Kindle Location 3980 – 3986)

“I understand. Please close your eyes.”

“I beg you.”

Maomao brandished her hand widely and struck Jinshi across the cheek. The smacking sound filled the air.

“Ngh.”

As Jinshi tried to open his eyes, Maomao gently rested her palm on his eyelids.

“Please let me take a look.”

Maomao’s hand hurt too, so Jinshi’s cheek would have hurt even more. She could see the heat in his cheek slowly turning it red.

(Suiren is guaranteed to find out, huh)

Whether she’d be be angry or not was dependant Jinshi’s reaction.

“Pain, pain, fly away.”

Remembering a spell that Big Sister Pairin often used to do, Maomao lightly brought her mouth to the reddened cheek. Her lips were cooler than her fingertips and she could sense the temperature of his cheek all the more.
